I began practicing yoga
in 1985 while
studying
for a degree in Performance Arts. I developed an Iyengar-based
practice with
Judith Hirt in San Francisco. I
eventually branched out into Astanga Vinyasa yoga, completing teacher
training at It's Yoga in San Francisco in 2001 and Shiva Rea's Vinyasa
Flow teaching intensive in London in 2004. I later began
studying Pilates with Amit Younger of Pilates Performance at the Royal
Academy of Dance, where I went on to complete my Body Arts and Science
Pilates Mat Work teaching certification. I also have a
certificate in Sport Yoga from the National Exercise and Sport Trainers
Association (USA).
Over the years I
have had the
privilege of developing my practice in workshops with some of the
world's best known
contemporary teachers, including Shiva Rea, Dharma Mittra, John Scott,
David
Swenson, Edward Clark, Kausthaub Desikachar, Tias Little, Pattabhi
Jois, Baron Baptiste, Beryl
Bender Birch, Ana Forrest, Max
Strom, Judith Lasater (Restorative Yoga Teacher Training) and Pilates
master Rael Isacowitz.
An avid
runner since the 1980s, I have completed 7
marathons with a best time of 3:45 and have even picked up a few age
group prizes. I now
lead Yoga for Runners workshops at Triyoga in
London, helping to pioneer their Yoga for Sports series. I
have contributed to "Yoga Magazine", "Runners
World" , "Health and
Fitness" and "Zest" magazine. Yoga for Runners has also
been featured in London's "Evening Standard", New Zealand's "Fitness
Life" Sweden's "Fitness"
magazine, "Women's Running", "Running Free" and "The Financial Times".
I'm member of the
standards arbiter Yoga Alliance UK,
Body Arts & Science International, Clapham Runners
Club, England Athletics and the Register of Exercise Professionals
(REPS) level 3.
Yoga & Pilates
for Runners now has an impressive team of
instructors able to offer one-to-one Yoga
and Pilates training to runners and other active people across
London.
